Make sure you don’t miss out on a short-term series of workshops aimed at supporting high street businesses in the region. The series is only available until 31st March 2026 and includes targeted business support across four areas as well as a variety of free workshops available for all high street businesses.

The UK Government is supporting vibrant high streets across the country, committed to creating strong business environments that enable businesses to start-up, sustain and grow, while providing value to their local communities. The HEY Business Growth & Skills Hub (HEYGH) is working with its delivery partners to deliver a programme of workshops, consultation and some geographically targeted support between January and March 2026.

The four targeted areas Prestongate, Hessle; the high street in Pocklington; and Chanterlands Avenue and the Stepney area of Beverley Road in Hull. It will offer businesses in these four areas access to specialist training workshops and one-to-one consultations with retail and hospitality experts, as well as providing an opportunity for business owners, together with key local stakeholders, to offer feedback on the opportunities and challenges they face, and about the kind of help and support that they need to succeed. We have been using the FSB's report to government on the challenges to High Streets in the UK as a starting point for our discussions with businesses in these areas.

Alongside this free training workshops tailored to all high street business needs are taking place online and in-person at locations across the Hull and East Yorkshire area.

Workshops include:

  • Customer Service Excellence in High Street Businesses
  • High Street Businesses Online – Local Search & Google Visibility
  • High Street Businesses Online – Content, Retention & Sustainable Growth
  • Anti-Shoplifting & De-escalation Skills
  • Visual Merchandising & Sales Conversion
  • High Street Marketing for Leisure, Retail & Hospitality
  • Seasonal Trading, Flow & Operational Readiness
