Ross joins DoubleTree by Hilton Hull from De Vere Latimer Estate and has previously held senior leadership roles across the UK and internationally, including positions with Hilton London Wembley, Hilton Ramses Cairo and Macdonald Aviemore Resort. He will oversee all aspects of hotel operations, guest experience, team engagement and commercial performance as the hotel enters its next phase of growth.
Q. What attracted you to DoubleTree by Hilton Hull?
Ross: It was the hotel's reputation, its central role in the city and, most importantly, the people. From the moment I joined, I could see the passion the team has for delivering great hospitality and creating memorable experiences for every guest.
DoubleTree by Hilton Hull has built a fantastic reputation across Hull and East Yorkshire, not only as one of the city's leading hotels, but as a venue that's genuinely connected to the local business and charity community. I saw a real opportunity to build on those strong foundations, strengthen existing relationships and continue growing the hotel's reputation as a leading destination for conferences, events and hospitality.
For me, great hotels are built by great people. I'm incredibly fortunate to be working alongside such a dedicated and talented team, and I'm excited to support them as we continue to invest in the hotel, develop our offering and build on the success that's already here.
Q. What opportunities do you see for business events in Hull and East Yorkshire?
Ross: Hull and East Yorkshire is entering an exciting period of growth. We're seeing investment across renewable energy, advanced manufacturing, skills and regeneration, creating real opportunities for businesses to connect, collaborate and grow.
As that momentum continues, we're seeing increasing demand for conferences, corporate meetings and networking events, with more organisations choosing Hull as a place to do business. The region has always had a collaborative business community, and with more national and international investment arriving, we have a fantastic opportunity to showcase not only DoubleTree by Hilton Hull, but Hull itself as a first-class destination for business events.
Q. How will The Horizon Suite enhance the hotel's events offering?
Ross: The Horizon Suite is an exciting addition to the hotel and represents another important investment in our meetings and events offering. It's a flexible, modern space that allows us to welcome an even wider range of events, from board meetings, training sessions and corporate workshops through to networking events, charity functions and private celebrations.
It also strengthens our ability to support professional sports teams, providing dedicated space for pre-match meetings, team briefings, media conferences, recovery sessions and overnight stays. Combined with our central location, quality accommodation and experienced team, we're well placed to meet the needs of elite sporting organisations visiting the region.
Ultimately, The Horizon Suite gives businesses, charities and organisations greater choice and flexibility, allowing every event to be tailored to their individual needs. Alongside our existing event spaces, it reflects our ongoing commitment to investing in facilities that meet the expectations of today's event organisers.
Q. What trends are you seeing from conference and corporate event organisers?
Ross: Organisers are looking to create experiences that deliver genuine value for delegates, rather than simply filling a room. They're seeking venues that offer flexibility, reliable technology and seamless service, alongside spaces that encourage networking, collaboration and meaningful conversations.
Sustainability is also becoming increasingly important, with many organisations looking for venues that can demonstrate responsible practices and support their own environmental commitments. At the same time, expectations around quality food and drink, wellbeing and comfortable accommodation continue to grow.
Perhaps the most encouraging trend is the continued return to face-to-face events. Businesses recognise the value of bringing people together to build relationships, share ideas and inspire innovation, and we're proud to provide a venue where those connections can happen.
Q. What are your priorities for the hotel over the next 12 months?
Ross: My priority is to build on the excellent reputation the hotel has already established by continuing to deliver outstanding service and memorable experiences for every guest.
I'm also keen to spend time getting to know more of the businesses, charities and organisations that make Hull and East Yorkshire such a vibrant community. Building strong relationships is incredibly important to me, and I want DoubleTree by Hilton Hull to continue playing an active role in bringing people together.
Raising awareness of The Horizon Suite is another key focus. It gives businesses and organisations even greater flexibility when planning meetings, training sessions and events, and we're excited to see the opportunities it creates.
Above all, we'll continue investing in our people, our facilities and the overall guest experience. That's how we remain the venue of choice for businesses and event organisers, while continuing to champion Hull and East Yorkshire as a fantastic place to visit, work and do business.
Q. Why should businesses choose Hull and East Yorkshire for their next event?
Ross: Hull and East Yorkshire offers businesses an accessible, welcoming destination with a thriving business community and a growing reputation for innovation, particularly across renewable energy, advanced manufacturing and logistics.
As investment continues, the region is attracting more organisations looking to connect, collaborate and grow. For delegates, Hull offers a warm welcome, a vibrant cultural scene and excellent value, with hotels, restaurants and attractions all within easy reach. For event organisers, it's a destination that combines quality venues, experienced hospitality and excellent accessibility, without the cost or congestion often associated with larger cities.
At DoubleTree by Hilton Hull, we're proud to play our part in showcasing everything the region has to offer. Whether it's a board meeting, conference, exhibition, gala dinner or celebration, our aim is always the same: to provide exceptional service, flexible facilities and an experience that encourages people to return to Hull again and again.
